2005 A.B.A.T.E. of Kansas, District 8 Toy Run

The 2005 A.B.A.T.E. Toys For Tots Motorcycle Run for Reno County, (Hutchinson, Kansas), took place at 1:00pm on Sunday November 20. Although it was a cool, damp, day, (about 50 degrees), there was a great turn out. Over 530 motorcyclists on Harleys, Hondas, Suzukis, Guzzis, trikes and even a Cushman, made the streets of Hutchinson rumble with the unmistakable attention always present with large groups of bikers on a run. Amidst the motorcycles, a semi truck with a flatbed, hauled a payload of 65 new bicycles and tricycles, bound for some happy kids, come Christmas.

With the start of the Toy Run at Carey Park, going north on main to 30th street, west to K-61 Highway, south to 4th street, and finally East on 4th to end up at The Eaton Employee's Activity Center, crowds of people all along the route cheered and waved as the parade filed by.

Once at the end of the run, the riders and supporters, surrendered 100's of toys to the Salvation Army, and were treated to a chili feed, auction & raffle, which raised over $4600 at that point. This is not counting the other donations still coming in, and the 85 donation cans on the counters of area businesses yet to be collected. Although more chili was made than last year, it sold out in the first 40 minutes, bringing in over $750 of donations alone. Over all, a great success for many soon-to-be happy children at Christmas, as well as a good time for all involved.
