"The Tournament"
This is the latest wall sign Grumpy has done as of March 15th 2007.
It is on the inside of the Hutchinson Sports Arena.
The colorful logo was painted with both 1-Shot Lettering Enamel, (Bright Red),
and House of Kolor Urethane Lettering Enamels, (Lite Blue & Orange).
It really jumps out from the surrounding signage on the other connecting arena walls.
Positioned at over 10' up on the wall, this required 2 sections of scaffolding to work from.
Due to daily activity,
it could only be worked on in the late afternoon and evenings, on certain days.
Total time spent on this project including all preparations, was 25 hours.
The new logo is 10' long by 24" tall.
This is the 2nd year Grumpy has had the priviledge of working on this major,
national event's advertising signage.
Grumpy painted the dark blue lettering below the new logo,
as well as other NJCAA event signage,
in the arena last year.
The winner of each year's tournament,
will be painted on a huge map of the U.S.A. on the southwest interior wall of the arena.
"The Tournament" is this year's new marketing campaign for
the Division 1 NJCAA Men's National Basketball Championship.
Held at The Hutchinson Sports Arena each year since 1949,
March Madness is indeed alive and well in Hutchinson Kansas.
The Tournament takes place this year from March 20 through 24.
The organizers of this major, national event is the local
American Legion Lyle Rishel Post No. 68.
Tournament Chairman Jerry Ricksecker believes the new logo
will give a more professional look to the event,
making it more fan and consumer friendly.
One of the top sponsors this year is AT&T,
bringing with them Miss Kansas to sing the National Anthem Thursday evening.
According to local reports,
The Hutchinson/Reno County Chamber of Commerce estimates "The Tournament"
will bring 35,000 visitors with around 10,500 from out of the county,
generating more than $2 million in revenue for Reno County.
